The Trajan Column in color

The Trajan Column in color

The guys at History in 3D have done it again! An amazing reconstruction and imagination based on historical research into what Trajan’s Column – which is still standing – would originally have looked like.

This isn’t the only massive column celebrating a military campaign though. There’s a second one about 15 minutes’ walk away, the column of Marcus Aurelius at Piazza Colonna, which you can see on our free Piazzas and Fountains self-guided tour

Unless you’re a real history geek, don’t try to interpret the bas-relief carvings: they both take a very long time to say “bunch of Roman soldiers got on a ship, went to another country, kicked everone’s butt, took a bunch of stuff, came home”!
